If you’re just getting started and need to choose an online marketing niche, or are looking to add another niche to your growing affiliate marketing business, it’s vital that you make a wise choice.
You already know that the broad goal is to locate a hungry crowd, one that is actively seeking a solution to a problem they have. They need to be actively looking for a remedy, and must be willing to spend their own money to get it.
That’s the definition of an online marketing niche! So let’s analyze the best way for you to find a great one.
First you need to find a broad crowd that has the appropriate frequency of searches. Then you’ll need to narrow it to a sub-niche in which you can quickly become fluent in the needs of that crowd, and the solutions people seek. Then you will be in a position to choose a product and set up a marketing campaign.
If you’re in a hurry, here’s a summary of the 3 Best Online Marketing Niche Tips:
- Create a Clever Web Marketing Title – evokes curiosity, grabs attention
- Include an Emoji – put one in front of the title
- Design the URL of Your Page or Post – so it includes your keywords
- Create a Snippet – it summarizes the content
- Add New Content Frequently to Improve Your SEO – ideally several times a week

Now it’s time to get into the details of how these advantages might appeal to you.

2. Evaluate These Four Criteria For a Niche You Are Considering:
Is there Profit Here?
- Check around to see if people are advertising to the niche that you are considering
- Is there a magazine for this niche? If not, then it probably won’t work
- Is there an abundance of products for sale?
- Are there well-known brands, or experts whom people recognize?
Have You Bought Products in This Niche?
- You need to be a user of this type of product, so that you have insight into it
- You need to be familiar with what is available
- You need to know the user’s experience of buying in the niche
- You need to know what people look for, what they dislike
Do you have a Sincere Interest in the Niche?
- Being passionate about it is desirable, but not essential
- If you’re just in it for the money, people will be able to detect that
- If you’re not genuinely interested, you’ll have less enthusiasm for promoting it
- You need to be so interested that you look to educate yourself about it
Do You Have Knowledge About it?
- You must be a student of the niche
- You must desire to become more skilled in it as time goes by
- As you gain more knowledge, you’ll increase your income potential
3. What if I Don’t Like Any of Those Eight Niches?
Fair enough, if you want to pursue another field entirely, that’s not out of the question. But you need to do your homework to find out if there’s really a market for what you have in mind.
There’s a popular phrase “turn your passion into a profit”, as if anything you are passionate about will probably work out as a business. Unfortunately, that’s not the way the real world works.
If only a microscopic sliver of the market shares your passion, you’ll be wasting a lot of time and money trying to locate those lonely individuals in order to get them interested in the product or service that really gets your motor churning.
You really need to find something that’s in a reasonably strong market, and one in which you have at least a strong interest. You want a business that you’ll enjoy creating content around. There are five online resources that will allow you to evaluate any niche that you are considering.
In all of these resources, keep in mind that we are looking for phrases which imply that the searcher is looking to take action, not just be entertained or satisfy a curiosity. For example, a search for the phrase “what is a bookshelf speaker” indicates a curiosity, but the phrase “best bookshelf speaker under $500” shows an intent to take action.
1. Amazon
Look for reviews of books on the subject of your possible niche. If there aren’t many, that’s a clue that it’s not a hot market!
Look for books with a lot of reviews, look them over for clues. Check the five star reviews to see the phrases people use to describe their reasoning for liking the book. You’ll want to know what people look for and appreciate in the niche. This is a great way to get into people’s thinking patterns if you decide this is a profitable niche.
Also look for 1-star reviews, to see people’s complaints. These can give you useful material to use in creating your “lead magnet”, what freebie you’ll use to get people to give you their email address.
2. Forums
Are there forums with oodles of people who are interested in the niche you are considering? If so, it might be a good one. Spend a little time exploring them, to find out what people are talking about, what they love about the niche, what they hate, what drives them crazy.
3. Facebook Groups
Like with the forums suggestion above, locate Facebook groups that are populated with people who are deeply involved in the niche you are considering. Spend maybe 10 minutes and quickly discover what they think about, what they look for, what they like and dislike, etc. It’s a great resource for exploring a possible market for you.
4. Google Search
To explore a possible niche, and dig up a potential sub-niche in which you could build a business and eventually become an expert, start with a simple search on https://www.google.com/. Open a text file, to record any keyword phrases that look like they have good potential.
Google has accumulated such a treasure trove of information, not just about keywords but about semantic search (trying to gauge the intent behind the search) that you can glean a lot of keyword data even without using a specialized keyword research tool.
As an example of how this works, I chose “prepper supplies” to look into. It’s a very popular subject, with people wanting to get prepared in case of some sort of disaster. Here’s a screen shot of my results:
Pay close attention to the “People Also Ask” section, which appears a little way down the page from the search bar (I scrolled down before doing the screen capture). It gives you more results to consider.
In this case the last entry, “What medical supplies should a prepper have?” shows an intent to buy something. I typed that result into the search bar to dig deeper, and here is my result:
Once you find an interesting keyword phrase, review the search results to see if any of the entries are using this exact phrase, especially if a least part of the phrase shows up in the URLs in the list. If not, you just might have found a phrase that you could target, and possibly get onto the first page of results for.
